Tada!!

Well, here is the new bed. This is where all of the new daylilies will go. It took the guy all day to get done. He was here by 8:15a.m. Got half of the grass up with the sod cutter. Sod cutter then decided to die on him. So he brought that one back to be fixed, they did not have another one. So he had to run all the way to Morehead City to pick up another one. It only took him about 30 minutes to finish up, and then he had to run back down to Morehead to bring it back. When he got back, he had to take up the grass around the trees/shrubs by hand/shovel. And then he put down the good dirt. He left just after 5:00p.m. But I am very happy with it.

This is the softest dirt I've ever walked on. It is just amazing! It feels like walking on silk. So all the new plants should be very happy here.

I do not plan to buy any plants until weekend after this one. I am waiting to see if any weeds/grass/who knows what pop up. If they do, I'll just spray them down.

I am however, going to go next week, if I don't have Brandon, and pick up the rocks to carry the edging all the way down.

I just realized that you can't really tell in the picture. But the bed goes down along the house, and then the whole way across the fence, and stops when the fence stops.


Today, Nick and I moved all the sod from the driveway where the guy piled it for me, to the back yard. I also got a lot of weeding done in the back yard since it was not that hot. Still have a lot more to do, but at least it is started.

I can not wait for fall and cooler weather, so I can go and play outside again. These 90-100F temps suck royally!!!!

Help me understand why....

Okay, Lowa said I'm crazy. One set of my neighbors keeps telling me to stop, almost daily. The rest of them just look at me weird.

So help me to understand, why I'm crazy, weird, or need to stop with the flowers....

Because I really do not understand. What is so wrong with taking some land, and turning it into a beautiful area? It gives homes/food to the bugs/birds/bees/etc. It gives people walking/driving by something nice to look at. It brings me happiness. With all the nastiness in the world, I really do not understand why people are so against this beauty.

My children are still fed, and clothed. The dogs/cats/hedgehog/rat are all taken care of. We all are comfortable and have our needs/wants met. And if I still have some pennies left over to buy pretty flowers, what is so wrong with me doing so?

When I ask this particular neighbor why they think I need to stop, their answer is "Because you do". They are not gardening people.

So someone explain it to me, please.

And just to make it clear, it is not because the front is not taken care of and looks bad. I keep the front weed free, dead headed, and looking as nice as I can despite the yucky weather.

I must be weird...

Well, last night I picked out the last of the daylilies to order for this falls planting. I had gotten 17 on sale before. And picked out some more last night, to bring the total to 25. These will be for the front bed that I am installing in a week or two.

My guy came on Saturday to look at where I want the bed, and will call today to give me a quote. I'm going to have him rip out the grass, and put down good dirt. I decided not to go the turkey dirt route this time. Hopefully I will not regret that decision. But with my back, and knees... I can't do the bed installation anymore. Once the bed is done, and the weather cooled, I will go in search of the other plants. The daylilies are scheduled to arrive around the 13-15th of September.

But I read an article on the news today, that makes me if wonder if I'm weird or something. This guy is ripping out his grass, flowers, and trees, and having them replaced with concrete. He said he's sick of everything dying from the heat, and drought. I thought VERY briefly of the idea... But I just couldn't do it. No flowers/plants/trees, to me equals no birds, bugs, and bees. Who would want to live without those precious creatures to enjoy? Not me!! I will just have to be careful with plant selection to make sure everything is drought tolerant.

But as for the daylilies...

No Rain, no flowers, no pics

Sorry Frog, I ain't got any pics. We've had a week of temps over 100F, with the heat index at, or over 120F. And no rain for a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time. We are in a drought here. I can still water, but it don't matter. The plants don't care for hose water, they need rain water to thrive. So I am barely keeping things alive. About the only things I do have blooming are Zinnia's and Marigolds. I've already posted lots of Zinnia pics. Once it cools off, my fall bloomers will start up .... if they manage to live through this heat. We actually got a break this weekend, but it is supposed to be back HOT in a day or two. When you went outside, it felt like you were walking into a freakin' oven!

I could however post a picture of the SNAKE I killed tonight..... *shudder* :)

I do not like this!

This thing is HUGE, and lives by the pond. There are lots more in the yard, but this one takes the cake. It is absolutely huge. Gives me the creeps!!! :)
