It's working!

Check this out! The mini green houses are working!

We've had lows in the 20's, and highs in the 40's!

And yet these little guys are still growing!

This is batch one, outside in the back yard.

And here is batch 2.... lots more batches to go tho!

It must be magic....

I do not understand how this happens. I had the garage fridge totally empty of bulbs. But I make one little trip to Lowes, and now the fridge is back full of bulbs! It must be magic! Cause I do not have money for bulbs. But somehow they just appeared. Hmmm....

Perhaps I inherited this flower making magic from my Mother....

Exciting Idea...

Well, I was sitting here reading, and an idea popped into my head. For those who know of my "veggie garden" ordeal, skip the next paragraph.

When I installed my raised veggie beds, I told our friend I wanted the best garden dirt. Well the dirt came, I moved it into the beds, and for about 4 days it was great. After that, I had dirt that was like concrete. Nothing would grow, so I gave up. Next spring comes, and I tilled in sand, peat, compost, manure, and I ended up with so many freakin' weeds that I could not find my veggie plants! LOL Not sure if it came from the compost, or the manure, but it was a nightmare.

So this year, I think I have the answer. I'm going to make the beds 6-8" taller, which my back will appreciate. Put cardboard down on the bottom, along with a pre-emergent covering the yucky dirt. Then fill the "new bed", with dirt from my supplier. My supplier has a mix of dirt, mulch, turkey manure, and all sorts of other good stuff in the mix. It's what I used to make my new flower bed last year, and has been wonderful stuff.

If this does not work, I will give up on growing veggies.

Not Happy!

Well... I am not happy! I sowed 5 more containers today. Rocket Snapdragons, more Columbines, and some Delphiniums. Put them out back on my greenhouse shevles. Came inside. 20 minutes later I looked in the back yard, and that "thing" in the below picture attacked and destroyed 3 of my containers!!

So now I will be using the other shelves I had set up last year. So neither of the four legged hoodlums can reach them. Hard lesson learned.

When I first brought the Daylily seedlings inside on October 10th.

This picture was taken on December 30th. I am amazed at how they have grown. About 3 more months, and I'll be putting them back outside. In their new bed. Probably right after I get it built.

Bulbs and Winter Sowing

Well, as of Sunday my front yard bulbs are all in place. I can not believe how many bulbs from last year are peaking up out of the ground already! It's going to look fairly pretty once it all gets up and blooming. Now I just have 3 bags of lilies to get in the ground in the back, and I'll be done.

And, as of this evening, I started winter sowing. I potted up some "Malope Vulcan", "Spanish Lavender", "Giant Imperial Larkspur", "Excelsior Hybrid Foxglove" and "Red Swallow Wort".
These are the things in my seed collection that have weird temp requirements, so I thought I'd get them out there for nature to do it's thing.

Now all I have to do is either go buy more containers, which I don't really want to do. So I will do the next best thing. Hit my neighbors up for their garbage! Or I could score it really big! Wait till after midnight on recycling day and scronge the whole neighborhood for milk jugs. I'll have to ask L if she'll help me this Thursday night. LOL
