So much for saving money...

Can you see the logic here? It is cheaper to grow your own veggies, right? Wrong!
Today I spent $141.97 on wood to raise up the veggies beds, to fill with dirt plants will actually grow in. Then also today, I had my Valentines Day present delivered... FIVE YARDS OF TURKEY DIRT!!! Yeah!!!! Finally!! That cost $224.18! I can't help but think that I could buy a lot of veggies for $366.15! LOL

However, to be honest, some of that wood money is also building 2 Daylily seedling beds, and some of that dirt is hopefully, for my flower beds. Okay fine. The flower beds will be filled with dirt first, and whatever is left will go in the veggie beds. A girl has to have her priorities right.

This morning N2 and I picked up the wood. This afternoon N1 and I built the beds and put them in place. This evening, Larry brought me the dirt. It is still sitting in the drive way. That is tomorrow afternoons job.

Tomorrow morning, Cynth and I are going to Carolina Home and Garden to pick up a few things. When I get home from that, I'll start moving all the dirt. Yeah! I am SO excited! I will have to take a picture of this dirt mound. It is beautiful stuff!

So today I went and picked up more weed and feed for the lawn, and put it down in the front yard. It is finally supposed to rain tonight, so that'll water it all in. Other than that, I did nothing outside. It was way to hot. Mid 80's for those who care. Tomorrow however, we are not supposed to get out of the 50's! I hate this back and forth and stuff!

As you may have noticed, I still do not have my Turkey dirt!!! I bet you anything, it'll come in tomorrow when it is too cold and rainy to play outside.

Busy, busy, busy...

Yesterday I got up early. Hooked up my new hose winder. Watered the front bed. That was in the in front.
In the back, Nick and I put up a piece of plywood to act as a gate for the garden. I was going to build an actual gate, but decided that Ms. Sophie would just go through it. So plywood it is. Looks ugly, but if it works....
Then Nick built my sweet pea trellis for me, while I planted seedlings. Spent about 3-4 hours planting, and pulling weeds. Then I mowed the lawn in the backyard, and pulled more weeds.

After all that, I managed to clean out the garage some. More like re-organize it. By 4:00pm I was pooped.

Today, I am sore from all I did yesterday, and have done nothing more than water the seedlings. I really wish we would get a soaking rain. We are working on 2 weeks with no rain! Not good at this time of year.

Pain

Today, I got up early, and went and picked up garbage along side our main street, as part of our Community clean up. Cynth came with me to help too. Which was very nice. We had fun chatting with various folks while working.

Then she and I ran to Lowes. I went to pick up Neem Oil, and ended up spending $67. Already broke my promise to Cecil not to buy any plants. :( I tried so hard!!! Really I did! I got two miniature roses, some petunias for my tipsy pots, and dusty miller. I'm SO ashamed. Not! :) He was not mad at me tho. So this is good. But I admit. I have a serious problem. Ha ha ha!

I came home, and put down weed and feed in the back yard. Sprayed the neem oil on my daylilies and whatever else was peaking out of the ground. Then I watered the seedlings I planted yesterday. Then I potted up 20 more jugs of seeds. That is actually what made my back hurt. From bending over so much I guess. I think tho, that I am now over 100 jugs! Woohoo!

Then I went and laid out Cynth's flower bed for her with the flowers she bought at Lowes. She did the work of planting them, but wanted me to tell her where to put them. I think it looks nice. She brought over two steaks for Cecil and I. But I had to make supper for the kids. So...

We had our first BBQ of the year. Did some beef short ribs. Those were tasty. Went back over to watch Cynth finish planting her stuff. And now I'm about ready to pass out.

Notice I did not get any turkey dirt. I need to stop telling people how wonderful that stuff is. My guy, Harry, was all out of it! So now I have to wait until Thursday to get another load. This is not good. It's really going to put me behind schedule. I wonder tho... Last year he told me I was special enough, that if I needed something when he was closed, he'd come in just for me. I'm hoping he remembers when I call him up on Tuesday.

Why do I do this to myself?

You know, I love flowers. I mean, love, love, love them. But why does it take so much work to grow them.... *whine and cheese*

Yesterday, I picked up my first load of dirt. Roughly a yard and a half. It was just enough to put a layer over my front flower bed. I put it all down yesterday, broke a nail, and almost passed out in the heat. Yuck.

Today, I went and got my nails done. Then I planted a bunch of seedlings. I lost track of how many milk jugs I got rid of. But I need a bunch more to finish off the front bed.

Tomorrow T.C.H.O.A. is having a work day, so I have to go to that and more than likely render myself useless for my own yard. But I'm going to and get another truck load of dirt after that. It will more than likely stay in the truck tomorrow. If for no other reason that it is supposed to be 85F tomorrow!

But, all my rose bushes are put forth tons of new growth. Daylily Stella D already has scapes growing on her. The rest of my daylilies are up and out of the ground a few inches, but that is about it! They need to hurry up and grow!

Two Tulips that are just opening.... I can't believe how full these are going to be!

I started most of the veggies I want in the garden via milk jug sowing. I just have tomatos and radishes left to do. L and I went and got a pallet for me to take apart to make a gate for the garden, to keep the dogs out. This week I hope to go get some dirt to finish off the front flower beds, and then get them planted with WS babies.

Spring is slowly showing up... I just wish I felt better so I could do all that I want to do. I've got the spring time crud. :(

Bulbs in the ground

Well, this afternoon I managed to get all 232 bulbs into the ground. Also planted 5 milk jugs of seedlings. It is nice to be able to have the fridge back!! The only problem I have now, is that I have a MAJOR headache from spending all that time in the hot burning sun. I think I am suffering from exposure, as I also have a bit of a burn on my shoulders and upper arms. Not fun.

So hopefully this weekend, when it is cooler again, I can go get a truck load of dirt to top off the right flower bed. I plan to do that so the seedlings will have a better chance of survival. In this hard clay I don't think they'd have a hope in hell.

THEN, I will start to worry about the veggie garden. Building up the beds and planting. I think I will go ahead and sow the seeds in jugs. At least that way they are not waiting for me to get things done to start growing.

My Okame Cherry tree is in full bloom. I will try to remember to take pictures of it tomorrow. It is just loaded with little pink blossoms. It's beautiful!

Daffs and Grape Hyacinths

Here are some of the flowers blooming in the front yard. There was more, but the wind blew a lot of the petals off yesterday. So far nothing much is blooming in the backyard. But that will change soon enough. L is going away for the weekend, so perhaps I will get some time to plant out some of the jugs. That is if the weather co-operates. Never know what we are going to get this time of year.... Rain, snow, sunshine...

More bulbs

Well, the kids wanted to go to walmart, so I took them on Saturday. Ended up buying some more bulbs. More Dahlias, something I forget, and Peruvian daffodils. They are very cool looking, and bloom during the summer, instead of the spring. I can not wait to take pictures of all these beauties!

I planted some more seeds in containers. Lots of them are sprouting now. Pretty soon I'll plant them out. I thought about doing it this weekend, but it is going to be too cold at night again this week. So I'd rather wait.

I have lots of daffs, tulips, and mini irises blooming now. Those are all bulbs tho. In real flowers tho, I have one carnation that bloomed. And some of the dianthus' are blooming too. Pretty soon things will be all colorful once again.
