Marian's Garden Blog

This blog is for my garden. So I can keep track of things I need to remember and won't. And so I can compare this years doings, with next years doings.

My "Boyfriend" loves me! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!

My boyfriend at the dump loves me! Woohoo!!!

There is this guy that works at the dump. Cynth and N2 think he has a crush on me. He always helps me unload my stuff. Always comes out of their hut when I arrive. When I see him around town, he always talks and stares at me. All this supposedly means that he has a crush on me. So, they started calling him my boyfriend. Whatever!

Anyway, today N2 and I went to the dump to drop off garbage cause we missed garbage day. He helped us unload the truck. Then I asked him if I could take some bricks from the brick pile. He said yes!!! So right now the back of my truck is loaded down with bricks to start my pathway!!!

I AM SO EXCITED!!! Now I just have to decide what type of pathway to do! Just a brick edged one with pea gravel in the middle. Or a full brick pathway. I do not think there is enough bricks there to do a full brick path. So I will have to research different types I can do. I will definitely have to go back to get more tho. So hopefully he will still love me then. LOL

I just can't believe I got free brick! These are bricks from buildings/houses that were torn down. So there is a history to them. I dunno the history, but it is still a neat thought.

We will have to wash all of them, and chisel off some concrete on about half, but that is okay cause they were free! Teehee!!

More newbies

Lowa, you said you liked this flower, so I thought I'd show you how it grows. It's called "Balloon Flower" because it balloons up, then pops open into that purple flower. The "balloons" you see above will be larger and more purple before they pop. It's a neat plant.

Unknown that I thought looked pretty

Haven't been doing much in the yard. It's been too freakin' hot. Lower 90's. It's way to early in the season for it to be this hot. And the worst part, no rain!! No rain in the 5 day forecast either. There are towns around us that have called for no watering of lawns and flowers. I am dreading that happening here, but if this drought keeps up, it probably will. Thank God our water takes forever to get hot, so I can catch that water to water the plants. I'll need way more than that, but between the 5 of us, we should be able to at least water one flower bed a day. I guess I'll start doing the rain dance while I'm out pulling weeds. That oughta be scary. LOL

Forgot these...

Baby Mockingbird

Feeding time

Now don't go get all mad at me, that I am making it difficult for the Mockers to feed their babies, by putting the Mocker proof mealworm feeder out. Mockingbirds are plentiful, Bluebirds are a threatened bird. Their numbers have decreased by 70% since the 1970's, due to a decline in habitat.

I do put worms out for the Mockers too, just not as many. They are pigs!!! And, are very territorial. They will not let the Blues get any of the worms. Which is why I called for drastic measures to be taken. :)

Okay, I'm off to bed. Just had to share my next headache being fed. :)

Strawberry Candy

Here we have the new feeder, that is er was supposed to be Mocking Bird proof.
You tell me, does this look to be Mockingbird proof?? I have since taken the green footings off, and put the worms in a small cup in the middle of the feeder. It is now Mocking bird proof.

However, as you see here, the Bluebirds are to stupid to figure this house out! They sit there like this guy is, and look at the worms. Tapping the plexi trying to get them, yet refuse to go into the house to get the worms! It is so frustrating to watch this!!!

I had no idea that Robins ate raisins. They have cleaned that bowl out already. I, of course refilled it for them. Now I'm going to go broke buying raisins and worms. :)

These two pictures are of the kids enjoying the fire pit and fireworks.

Well today I am doing nothing. It's HOT out today. I went yard saling with Cynth this morning. Picked up a few things for the yard, N2 some shirts, and Kk a (kids) Piano. I am going to be lazy for a while more, and then water the back yard. I plan on going to bed early too. This getting up early sucks.

Daylily blooms

Clump of Daring Dilemma

New last year, first time I've seen it - America's Most Wanted - Ignore my foot:)

Thrips Damage on Lori Goldston - Also new from last year, first time for me to see

Cranberry Baby - One of my best performers

And lastly, the Hydrangea is starting to change color. One is loaded with blooms, and the other 3 got hit hard by the frost and will be a while. If they bloom at all. :(

Today is too hot to do much of anything outside. Or rather, it's not that it's hot, but that it is humid. So I think I will close up the windows, turn on the AC, and hide inside. I'll water everybody later tonight, and thats about it!

Just another Thursday

The last peek at the babies. Today they are 13 days old, and I can no longer look inside, or they may fledge early. Hopefully I'll see them take their first flight.
Fairy Tale Pink

Passion Vine starting it's show. All those little blobs are blooms yet to come.

SpaceCoast Starburst

Yet another unknown Daylily - This sucker is loaded with buds. What you can see in this picture, is only 1/4 of them! To bad it isn't prettier.

Well, today I claimed war on the Mockingbirds, and went and bought a mealworm feeder. It's built like a bird house, but the sides are clear. The Bluebirds will have to go into the house to get the worms. The holes, one on either end, are only big enough for the blues, and birds smaller than them. So hopefully we won't go through worms as quickly now. I am seriously contemplating raising my own worms. Just gotta read up on it. Kinda creeps me out tho. :)

Tomorrow should be a good bloom day if tonight is on the warmer side. I've got lots of Daylily blooms that are 1/4 to 1/2 open, so hopefully they will bloom!

I've gotta mow the front lawn tomorrow. But I may skip that, and instead wash the house. I still have not got around to doing that. If it's warm enough, I may do that. Ugh.
